Local Government Professionals Australia offers two annual exchange opportunities each year for senior council staff to travel to the United States and New Zealand.
The International Professional Exchange Program is an excellent professional development opportunity for senior managers and – as former participants have told us – a real career highlight.
The Program offers a short exchange with a partner local government practitioner and their council in either the US or NZ, allowing recipients to grow their international networks and benefit from an exchange of ideas.

2018 Australia / United States
In partnership with the International Country/County Managers Association (ICMA) in the US, LG Professionals Australia selected Tim Frederico, Director Corporate Development, City of Frankston VIC as the 2018 Exchange recipient to the US.
In addition to participating in the host council exchange, Tim attended the ICMA’s 104th Annual Conference taking place from 23-26 September 2018 in Baltimore, United States.
2018 Australia / New Zealand
In partnership with the New Zealand Society for Local Government Managers (SOLGM) LG Professionals Australia awarded Nick Serle, General Manager, City Infrastructure, City of Mount Gambier SA, the 2018 International Professional Exchange Program to New Zealand.
Nick explored how partner councils can stimulate economic growth, while at the same time sharing sustainable practices for waste management. He also attended SOLGM’s Annual Summit on 10-11 September 2018.
